The Tour de France is an annual bicycle race held primarily in France, while also sometimes passing through other countries. The race was first organized in 1903, and since then has been held every year except during the two World Wars. As the Tour became more ever more popular with cyclists, the race was lengthened and international riders began to show interest. The tour is now a World Tour event, which means the teams that compete in the race are mostly UCI World Teams
Traditionally the Tour is held in the month of July each year. The route does alter from year to year but the format of the game stays the same. There are the time trials, the passage through the mountain chains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and the finish on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. The modern editions of the Tour de France, France, consist of twenty-one stages over a twenty-three day period and cover about three thousand five hundred kilometres. The race alternates between clockwise and counter clockwise circuits.
The number of teams usually varies between twenty and twenty two, with nine riders in each team. All the stages are timed to the finish and the riders’ times are compounded with their previous stage times. The rider with the lowest aggregate time is the leader of the race and gets to don the coveted yellow jersey. There are other contests held within the Tour itself, for instance the point’s classification for the sprinters, the mountains classification for the climbers, and the youngest rider classification for riders under the age of 26. Gaining a stage win is a hotly contested competition, fought for by a specialist cycling sprinter on each team
Great Winners of the Tour
Miguel Indurain holds the record for the maximum number of wins in the Tour de France. He has won five times. Lance Armstrong won the race seven times, but was stripped of his titles for the doping charge he faced some years ago. The last few years have been dominated by British riders, namely Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome and the Team Sky.
Wagering on the outcome of sports is a huge industry in every country in the world. It is possible to bet on the result of races, matches or tournaments, and it is also possible to bet on many special or proposition bets. These days a sports bettor can even establish an account with an international sports book and make telephone wagers directly. It is wise, however, to do some research before placing the bet.
